The Cambridge National qualification is available as an Award, Certificate and Diploma, (with the
Certificate being the same value as a GCSE), and is assessed using internal and external
assessment.
The Certificate covers 4 units of study:
2 Mandatory units:
R021 Essential values of care for use with individuals in care settings (external examination)
R022 Communicating and working with individuals in a health, social care and early years setting
2 Optional units:
There are 8 choices of optional units but we will study:
Understanding First Aid Procedures
Understanding Life Stages
The qualification is graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction, at Level 1 or Level 2.
Careers for which this qualification is useful: any medical profession as long as you take an
additional science: midwifery, physiotherapy, nurse, social care industry; prison, social services
or working in the care industry, child care: nursery nurse and teaching.
This is a vocational qualification which allows students to learn about real life work and jobs and to
gain valuable insight into the world of work within the health and social care setting. As part of the
course, the students will visit several care organisations and the students will undertake a First Aid
qualification.
