GCSE Drama has been an incredibly popular and successful subject at Avon Valley for several
years.
Course Content
The course will be divided in 3 components as follows;
Component 1 – Understanding Drama (40% final mark)
What is assessed?
Knowledge and Understanding of Drama and Theatre
Study of a set text – ‘Blood Brothers’ by Willy Russell
Analysis and evaluation of the work of a live performance
How is this assessed?
“Open book” written examination – 1hr 45min
Section A multiple questions (4 marks)
Section B four questions on the set text extracts given by exam board of the studies text by
the centre (Blood Brothers) (44 marks)
Section C one question on the works of theatre-makers based on the live performance you
visit with your centre (32 marks)
Component 2 – Devising Drama – Practical (40% final mark)
What is assessed?
Process of creating Drama through a devising process
Performance of devised
Analysis and evaluation of their own work
How is this assessed?
Devising Log (60 marks)
Devised Performance (20 marks)
Component 3 – Texts in Practice – Practical (20% final mark)
What is assessed?
Perform two extracts from the play studies by the Centre (Metamorphosis)
How is this assessed?
Both extracts performed are worth 20 marks each (40 marks)
This exam is performed in front of an examiner (no teacher assessment)
