English & English Literature

Head of Department: Miss S Johnson

English is studied by all pupils to examination level. There is no longer any coursework

for either GCSE; pupils are assessed by end of the course examinations.

WJEC Eduqas English Language GCSE

The syllabus aims to enable pupils to use English confidently, accurately and appropriately in its spoken and written forms.

You will develop your reading and enjoy and understand a range of texts of different types and from different eras.

You will use written form to communicate clearly, effectively, and imaginatively for different purposes and audiences and to develop an appreciation of the writer's craft.

Candidates must use a range of vocabulary and sentence structures for clarity, purpose and effect, with accurate spelling and punctuation. (This amounts to 20% of the marks for the GCSE.)
