The Travel and Tourism industry is a major employer and plays an important role in the UK economy.

This qualification is designed to prepare students with the knowledge and experience to progress to further courses and jobs in the sector. It is for learners who want to learn about the travel and tourism industry, the features of different tourist destinations and the organisations responsible for delivering holidays. The qualification recognises the value of applied skills and knowledge, giving learners the opportunity research the appeal of different tourist destinations to different types of customer and the factors that influence travel and tourism.

It is suitable for students who are studying GCSEs or other BTEC subjects and can support progress to A-Levels, Level 3 BTECs or applied college courses/ apprenticeships. A Level 1 qualification is available for students unable to complete Level 2.

Lessons promote useful skills such as independent research, presentation and evaluation.

Throughout the qualification, local tourism organisations will be involved in ensuring teaching is delivered in a real and applied context

Assessment:

The course includes three units.

Two of these are assessed through coursework completed in lessons, investigating travel and tourism organisations, researching holiday destinations and planning holidays for different types of tourist.

The final unit, focusing on factors affecting the tourism industry, is assessed in a written exam that is externally marked.
