Options Booklet 2018-2021 | Page 13

The Option Subjects

After choosing their Humanities and Language option, most pupils will also select TWO other subjects (and TWO reserves) from the OPEN Choices:

BTEC Tech Award in Enterprise

BTEC Tech Award in Travel & Tourism

VCert in Health and Fitness

Physical Education (GCSE)

CACHE Child Development

Art and Design

Design and Technology

Hospitality and Catering

Media Studies

Film Studies

Drama

History

Geography

French

Spanish

Computer Science

Music

All subjects from the open choices are allocated five hours a fortnight over the course of the three years of study.

As you can see, your child, should they wish to, can opt to study both languages or humanities.

We ask that when selecting their choices pupils pick FOUR subjects from the OPEN Choices in order of preference. In general, we would hope to satisfy the first TWO preferences, with choices three and four being 'reserves'.

It is important to think carefully about choosing your reserve subjects - remember that you could find yourself studying one of these, if a first or second choice is cancelled because of low numbers opting.

Most pupils will also be given the opportunity (after their main options have been confirmed) to select a further GCSE qualification to study across Yr9 & Yr10 in either Events Operations, Information Technology or Hospitality & Catering. Please note that should your child have already selected Hospitality & Catering as a main choice, they will not be able to study it alongside this.

Application Process:

We are making changes to how the options process works this year and giving pupils, with their parents, the opportunity to submit their applications ‘online’.

Further to the guidance given at the ‘Parents' Evening’ and alongside this booklet, there is a ‘How to’ instruction sheet explaining the process.

Mr Catchpole (Assistant Head of Year) and I will also be offering a session here at school on Wednesday 6th and 13th March 2019 (during morning registration) for pupils and their parents to attend if they would like further support: please contact your child's tutor if you feel this would be of benefit to you.
