Geography

Head of Department: Mrs R Adams

Why study Geography?

The planet we live on is constantly changing and the future of it is dependent on well informed decision makers who can understand the causes and effects of such changes and who can offer sustainable solutions through being able to see the ‘whole picture’. It is not just about the knowledge and understanding gained but the variety of transferable and relevant skills which are highly regarded by employers and places of higher and further education.

What is Geography about?

Everything! Among the many issues we will study, when understanding the challenges for the planet, we will be evaluating the idea of defending our coastline, analysing the sources and consumption of resources in a demanding world, deciding how we can manage the world more sustainably, debating the future of UK cities and studying the various responses to climate change.

About the Geography Edexcel A specification:

The Course requires students to apply their knowledge through fieldwork and there will be 2 trips during the GCSE, one to a City and the other to the North Norfolk coast. This allows students to use geographical skills, appropriate technologies and enquiry & analysis skills.
