Optimizing PV Systems January 2015 - Part 2: Energy Storage | Page 25

THE TOPOLOGY

The PV system supplies the electrical loads during the day and charges the battery. In the evening, when the power of the PV system reaches a predetermined minimum power output, the power supply operation switches to battery mode. The office building and warehouses are then supplied by the battery. This also happens when there is too little daylight during the day, as it is the case in bad weather. When a new day begins and the PV system reaches the minimum performance point again, night battery operation stops and the battery begins to charge.

Since this summer “Klar Folien GmbH” has also integrated an hydrogen plant in the system in order to provide additional energy for the two winter months of December and January where the PV system does not generate enough energy.

Sonnenbatterie GmbH has extensive experience in battery storage technologies and renewable energies.

As a medium-sized enterprise specializing in storage systems, Sonnenbatterie GmbH is committed to the highest quality, "Made in Germany".

The “Klar Folien GmbH” is a medium-sized company with around 20 employees and produces special films for industrial and pharmaceutical applications. The main consumers of electrical energy are the computers in the office. Additionally there are two electric forklifts whose batteries are recharged overnight. At night there is the lighting and the server, which results in a constant power demand of 1 kW on average. Another main electrical appliance is a machine for foil packaging where film rolls are cut to the required sizes.

Since it is part of the concept of the company to be as energy-self-sufficient as possible the excess energy of the PV system is used for powering a heat pump and to charge two electric cars. These two cars are used by the employees for short trips up to 100 km and thus save petrol.

The Sonnenbatterie is exclusively manufactured at the company's headquarters in Allgäu, where it is also subjected to thorough quality control. With this background, the Sonnenbatterie has also been TÜV certified since 2011.
