From the editor
September is a huge month for the fashion
industry.
It’s this time of year when buyers, media and
others descend on New York City, Paris, London
and Milan for each city’s semi-annual fashion
week events.
It’s also the month when the world’s top fashion
magazines like Vogue and GQ publish their largest
and most popular editions.
To prepare for these massive events, designers always
have to be thinking a few steps - or seasons - ahead. Popular styles include metal frames, retro-
inspired specs and lightweight models.
Many styles are forecasted months in advance,
using a variety of sources. We have also put together a pictorial on a hot trend
right now - clear/translucent frames that are
bound to turn heads.
One of these sources is the Pantone Fashion Colour
Report for fall, which is released in May, four
months ahead of the “Big 4” fashion weeks.
The report highlights the top colours that designers
at New York Fashion Week are expected to include
in their collections for the upcoming season.
Since eyewear is now also fashion accessory, frame
and sunglass designers are also referring to these
events, reports and other resources to predict and
create on-trend products for upcoming seasons.
This issue includes a look at the other aspect of
eyewear - lenses - as well, with a feature on the
latest in lens designs and technologies.
And, as always, along with flipping through the
pages of this magazine, we hope you will also visit
us on our website, opticalprism.ca, and return
often for the latest news in the eyewear and
eyecare industries.
Please also follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
A lot of the fall looks are announced in the months
leading up to and including September.
In this issue of Optical Prism, we are featuring
the newest and hottest looks in eyewear for this
fashionable fall season.
