frame by frame From contacts to frames E ye care patients feel like they’re coming home when they walk through Cambridge Eye Care’s doors. They choose this practice because of its convenient location in Cambridge’s Can-Amera medical plaza and because the staff make a point of getting to know their customers by name, not just by their eyes. Entering her fourth year of concurrent education at Laurier-Nipissing University in Brantford, 21-year-old Katarina Filipovic decided it was time to get a pair of comfortable and fashionable glasses, after an ulcer developed in her eye from wearing contact lenses. “I was unable to see for an entire week,” she said. “That really hindered my studies and I want to make sure that doesn’t happen again.” Assisted by optometric assistant Joanne Hebert, Filipovic first tried on a pair of Dior 3235 glasses. She was enamoured by its elegant design and easy fit, making it a top contender. Although she was almost certain that she would purchase these glasses, she still tried on four other sets of frames. Her love of fashion led her to try on a pair of Guess 2287 glasses. She liked the brand and the design of the frames, but she didn’t seem to think they were very comfortable. 1 2 3 Next up was Jones New York. Even though Filipovic adored the shiny scarlet frames, their 4 chunkiness was a bit of a turn off. She thinks it’s important to look good in your glasses, provided that they also fit you properly. Lastly, Hebert suggested that Filipovic try on a pair of Koali 7126 glasses, as well as Kate Spade Sheba. Koali piqued 5 her interest at first, but was later written off as being a little bit too bland. However, Kate Spade Sheba had an animal print design, something she thought gave her a very unique appearance. Dior 3235 and Kate Spade Sheba were ultimately tossed around, with Dior being the eventual winner. The reason for Filipovic’s choice was the comfort of the frames, which she thought would help her out a lot when it comes to studying. “It’s really important for me to concentrate as I enter my field,” she said. “Choosing these glasses will allow me to focus better on my education so I won’t experience any more issues with my eyes.” -Wesley Butler 1.
