The World Sight Day Challenge, co-ordinated by Optometry Giving Sight, is a major international fundraising campaign. videos of the champions sharing their stories, leading up to World Sight Day. The organization is challenging the optometric community to make a donation or choose a fundraising activity to raise awareness and funds, which will support schools of optom- etry and the training of other eye care professionals, help build and equip community-based vision centres that provide access to vision care and glass- es where currently no services exist. Optometry Giving Sight says every $100 raised can provide eye care for up to 20 children. For WestGroupe's social media challenge, the company will be posting On Oct. 11, WestGroupe will be releas- ing videos of the champions completing a challenge with their friend, who will then challenge three other friends to complete the task and post it to their social media to keep it going while do- nating to the link in the video's message. The first video will be released at 8 a.m. eastern standard time on the @WestGroupe Twitter and at 9:30 a.m. EST on WestGroupe's Instagram and Facebook page. Competitors are to complete the tasks while blindfolded as they are filmed by a second person. They can then share 30-second clips across social media channels with the hashtags #WithoutMySight, #WorldSightDay and #EverydayHeroes and tag @ WestGroupe. Examples of challenges include brushing teeth, writing a letter, feeding yourself and using the computer. Competitors are to end the video with “together we can make a bigger impact.” No videos that compromise a person's safety, such as driving a vehicle or op- erating machinery, will be accepted.
