Glimpses DR.’S CHOICE EXPANDS FACILITY, ADDS LENSES Dr.'s Choice Optical Lab, an indepen- dently Canadian, family-owned and operated lens manufacturer has recently expanded their facility. The newly designed optical lab is constructed with the most technolog- ically advanced operations in mind to enhance their current product and for future innovations. Dr.'s Choice has doubled their manufac- turing work space in order to keep up with the demand of high-quality digi- tal lenses and to increase production. The optical lab has been in operation at their location in Trenton, Ont., for more than 20 years. In 2017, the lab included a state-of- the-art superior AR coating facility and introduced the MEI EZ FIT edger to the provide customers with optimal products while minimizing wait times. Alongside the development of the new manufacturing space, Dr.'s Choice has expanded the private label digital lenses to include the OMNI and OMNI 4K European designs. TRANSITIONS, OAC ANNOUNCE SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS Transitions Optical and the Opticians Association of Canada have announced the winners of the 2018 Students of Vision Scholarship program: Sherene Vazhappilly, Katherine Vanloo and Brittany Hoffman. Vazhappily, a student optometrist at the University of Waterloo, will be awarded the grand prize scholarship of $2,500, while Vanloo, a student op- tician at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, will be awarded a scholarship of $1,500, and Hoffman, also a student optician at NAIT, will be awarded a scholarship of $500. Student applicants were tasked with describing how they will educate their patients on style in vision care by crafting a video, presentation or essay entry. Submissions were reviewed by a panel of judges and evaluated based on their demonstration of creativity, strategic thinking and ethics.
