Experts say about 80 per cent of what a child learns in the first 12 years of his or her
life comes through visual information.
Yet an estimated one in four school-aged children has a vision problem that can
impact that learning.
It's easy to see, based on those two facts alone, why it's so important for parents to
book an appointment for their young children with an eyecare professional.
The Canadian Association of Optometrists' policy statement on frequency of eye
examinations recommends that infants have their first eye exam between six and
nine months of age. Children should have at least one eye exam between the ages of
two and five and yearly after starting school to ensure optimal vision and development.
