PROTECTING
CHILDREN’S VISION
By Denis Langlois
The Canadian Association of Optometrists says only about 14 per cent of
Canadian children under the age of six have had an eye exam from a doctor
of optometry. There could be many reasons behind this low number.
For example, the organization says most Canadian parents believe they would
know if their child was having difficulty with their vision.
However, the association notes that many serious eye conditions “do not
have obvious symptoms and some eye diseases only show symptoms when
the condition is advanced and difficult to treat.”
Recently, the CAO spoke with Optical Prism and shared some tips on how to get
more children into an eyecare professional’s office and how ECPs can make
the appointments as comfortable as possible for young patients.
