January is a time of lull for many businesses and industries . Following on the heels of the bustling Christmas shopping season , this month is often the time when the number of shoppers at malls and stores drops dramatically , there ’ s suddenly an abundance of available parking spaces and retailers put their goods on sale to entice people to pop by .
It ’ s also a time when many people opt to stay home , curled up under a blanket on the sofa , rather than venturing outside and into the cold and snow of Canadian winter . While January can be a sleepy month for many , it ’ s still an exciting time for the eyewear and eyecare industries .
Plenty of eyewear companies take advantage of the new year to announce their new products for the lucrative spring / summer season . Industry watchers and eyewear magazines also focus their attention on anticipating the hot trends and must-have items for the year .
The new year is also a time to look ahead to major fashion events , which set the stage for the must-have fashion items and accessories for the season . The fashion capitals of the world - New York , London , Milan and Paris - each play host to fashion week events in February and March .
For consumers , this is an ideal time to visit an eyecare professional to check out their latest products .
