Volume 15 Issue 1 » 67 2019 Genesis G70 » Genesis’ mission with its G70 sport luxury sedan is simple. To make a car that is achingly beautiful and that drives even better. It is aimed squarely at upsetting the proven sport sedan players from Germany. Parent company Hyundai has ambitions for Genesis, assembling an executive team that includes former Bentley and Lamborghini design chief Luc Donckerwolke and former BMW M head Albert Biermann. Genesis’ brand chief, Manfred Fitzgerald, previously served as director of the Lamborghini brand. The Genesis G70 is hugely important for the brand. As a result, it has all the right pieces in place to deliver on the sport sedan puzzle. The G70 boasts a flowing, athletic-looking design, more in the mold of Infiniti’s Q50 than the restrained examples from Germany such as the BMW 3 Series or Audi A4. Inside the G70, you’ll find a driver-oriented cockpit with all the requisite modern conveniences. High-quality perforated and quilted hides will be available, plus wood and aluminum trim, and Apple CarPlay. Under the hood is either a turbocharged 2.0-litre four with 252 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, or a 3.3-litre twin-turbocharged V6 producing a whopping 365 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque. Rear-wheel drive is standard but all-wheel drive is available. All models will be fitted with a limited-slip rear differential. Manual transmission fans will rejoice, as there is one available. Like other products in their lineup, the Genesis difference is that all vehicles come with an abundance of luxury concierge services. This means that Genesis will even drop a vehicle off at your home for a test drive, purchase, or maintenance. This service also includes 5 year/100,000 km complimentary scheduled maintenance, 24/7 roadside assistance, a 5 year/100,000 km bumper-to-bumper warranty, and even five years of navigation map updates.
