The recycling movement has
long become a staple in our
disposal of items, but while
many of us think only as far
as our blue bins, recycling
has awoken the creativity
of artists all over the world.
Some artists are using
vehicles themselves as their
canvases – luminaries like
Jeff Koons, Alexander Calder
and Andy Warhol through
their BMW Art Cars, for
example – while others are
distinguishing themselves by
choosing recycled car parts
as the key medium of their
work.
Ptolemy Erlington and Blake McFarland
are two sculptors who are recreating a
wild kingdom of animals out of recycled
materials. Be it hubcaps or tires, these
artists are proving yet again that art knows
no bounds, and that one man’s trash is
another’s treasure.
