He had transformed a BMW 3.0 CSL into a unique, rolling canvas as an original work of art. Seventeen editions later featuri ng visionaries across continents and varied artistic styles, the Art Car is a defining cultural initiative by BMW. Other greats followed suit with their own art car creations over the years, including Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol and, most recently, Neo-pop artist Jeff Koons in 2010. On the 40th anniversary of the BMW Art Car, OpenRoad has created a miniature series of art cars to celebrate the milestone anniversary and to mark OpenRoad’s new ownership of The BMW Store. These rolling pieces of art pay homage to BMW’s joyful vision. Each of the twelve original works is part of an East Meets West series in miniature as seen through the eyes of visual artist, Mila Kostic. With Balkan origins, Kostic has resided in Vancouver since 1996. She is well suited to blend eastern and western sensitivities. Kostic uses the 1:18-scale BMW models as her new threedimensional canvas, expressing her unique passion through five distinct styles that she applies to the vehicles: Abstract, Borders, Fragments, Landscape and Writings.
