The wonders of Whidbey Island are just one
tank of fuel and a weekend away in Washington
state.
Eliminate the ferry crossing, and island getaways can be marvelously
therapeutic. We chose Whidbey Island, the largest of Washington
state’s islands and a charming strip of land that offers an enticing
array of small towns with gourmet restaurants, delectable gift shops
and a unique assortment of accommodation. With its beaches and
spectacular vistas, it promises endless browsing, long, rejuvenating
walks and the delight of peace, solitude and all the organic,
wholesome food you could desire.
The 169-square-mile strip of land is 224 kilometres from Vancouver
and is home to the towns of Oak Harbor, Coupeville and Langley.
Deception Pass Bridge marks the start of the island, and it’s a bridge
so magnificent you can’t help but park the car, walk around and gasp
at the view. It’s the kind of place that inspires people to propose,
declare eternal love and promise each other and themselves great
things.
