By September of 2014, the business had enjoyed the makings of a blazing year with bumper year-on-year increases of 95% in sales and 65% in profit at the end of its fourth year of trading, beating its annual forecast by 14% and has also seen a 240% increase in unique visitors to its website in the past six months. He says the national strike action of late 2009 was the final nail in the coffin for his dealings with Royal Mail. “We couldn’t send anything to anybody, which crippled the business.” But, it was also the genesis of his idea for My Parcel Delivery, an online company that would allow individual, small businesses unable to get a courier company account to get access through the joint buying power of many businesses needing parcel collection and delivery. And so, My Parcel Delivery was born the following year. The Salford-based business acts as an intermediary so consumers and businesses access the services of the best courier companies at very affordable prices. They can enjoy the best parcel tracking and guaranteed delivery services available, but they book and pay for deliveries via our e-commerce website. “It makes the whole parcel sending process far less stressful. Oh and, by the way, there’s no queuing involved – I wouldn’t have it any other way!” Seneca’s investment in early 2014 has given the business a real push to invest in the very things the market has been poor at – customer service, technology and customer experience. “The investment reflected the confidence that the funding community has in both My Parcel Delivery’s growth potential and the scale of the opportunity that exists in the e-commerce and delivery logistics market,” David says. 2014’s results have far exceeded the company’s 2012-13 performance – which recorded a 30% increase in sales and 20% increase in profit – and came in the same year My Parcel Delivery attracted more than £1.5 million of investment from North West funders Praetura Capital and Seneca Partners. David says: “The results are the strongest indicator yet that this is a milestone year for My Parcel Delivery and our plans to reinvent the parcel delivery and logistics markets. This year’s round of funding from Seneca and Praetura has enabled us to employ some of the best marketing, customer service and web design talent on the market and invest in the marketing approaches and web development technology needed to help drive business growth.” “And this year’s success can be attributed also to our relentless focus on customer service, which has given us a greater number of repeat customers. The parcel delivery sector is not generally celebrated for its customer service but we have decided to take a different approach by investing in staff and training to instil a genuine customer service ethos.
