Morphing into a 21st Century Teacher

We used these characteristics of a 21st Century teacher to create this graphic: Think beyond your classroom or your subject matter. Include the world in your lesson, literally. Look for ways to get involved with the community. Have a cause that the students can identify with. Foster social responsibility. Show students people from around the world. Use technology. Create lessons where students work with people around the world on the project. Let students capture what they are learning through photojournalism, videography, or blogging. Become aware of good teachers and contact them. Listen to experiences and people around you. Incorporate the parent and family via technology. Be willing to evolve as learning strategies and technologies evolve. Have a plan B if the technology fails. Practice using technology before the class begins. Create teaching and learning teams within your class. Integrate the arts. Take risks by trying something new. Wing it; be willing to throw the lesson out if the class is moving in a better direction. Collaborate with teachers outside your discipline or grade level. Let the students design the lesson. Be social; use social media. Introduce gaming; allow students to play, fail, and enjoy learning.
