Coaching is something that I’ve always wanted to do since I stopped playing football myself, and got the opportunity helping out with Whalley under 9s. I was then asked to coach/manage the under 10s last season. When I took over from the group, they suffered a torrid season and moral was very low, I feel the lads are now enjoying themselves again and playing some fantastic football.

The one thing that really pleases me is they never give up and always give 100%, which is something I have installed in them to do not only for playing football but with everything they do.

MEET

The Manager

Anthony Derbyshire is the coach of Whalley Juniors U11s who play their football in the East Lancs Football Alliance on Sundays. We play our home games at Queen Elizabeth II playing fields in Whalley, Lancashire.

I make sure all my coaching sessions are well planned out to involve all players, I do a lot on small sided games to allow the players to get lots of touches of the ball, and allow the players to come up with their own ideas on developing the sessions to get them involved. The kids love having an input into the sessions.

Myself and the boys can’t wait for the up and coming season to start were they will be playing 9v9 another step in there development. I am a qualified licensed coach and currently hold my level 1 and youth module 1. I am due to take my level 2 badge later this year, and my youth module 2 next year. I feel very privileged to be able to coach at Whalley Juniors as it’s a great family club and hope to be with the group of players I have at the moment for many years.
