In terms of creating the music and delivering the
message that you feel passionate about, have
there been times when you thought, ‘this is just
not worth the struggle’?
‘IF OUR MUSIC
TOUCHES AND
CHANGES JUST
ONE PERSON’S
PERCEPTION,
IT IS WORTH THE
STRUGGLE.’
Never. That is why we’re still here. If our music touches
and changes just one person’s perception, then it
is worth the struggle. It is our way to let go of our
pressures, as the youth of today, in the most peaceful
means possible. It is our universal language, what we
use to communicate with anyone around the world,
no matter where they come from or who they are.
Given your background in Syria, it’s almost like
you didn’t have any other choice but to make
music that takes a stance. What place does
carefree music have in severe circumstances?
Carefree music is music that could take you to a
good place, a space where you don’t have to worry
about the reality of your situation. It’s arranged in
a way such that it gradually instigates in you the
need to get up and get rid of any negative energy
surrounding you, the need to regain a positive
outlook by believing change is still possible. Thus,
our music is carefree. The stances taken in our lyrics,
and the intensity of our instrumentals, are there to
progressively guide the listener towards building up
and then letting go.
What would you say is it that attracted so many
Syrians to heavy metal? Why do you like it?
Heavy metal is a form of expression... a way to
channel any anger in the most peaceful means
possible. Through our music, we want to entice and
allow listeners to feel the depths of our concerns.
