Must Have Products to Keep Blonde Hair

Bright and Healthy

Purple Shampoo and Conditioner: If you’ve been blonde, then you may notice that your hair may begin to appear yellow or brassy in between touchups. This is caused by multiple things including the environment, heat styling, and your water. Using a purple shampoo and/or conditioner 1-2 times per week will help counteract those unwanted tones.

A couple of my favorite products are Joico’s Color Balance Purple Shampoo and Conditioner, Kenra’s NEW Purple products in their Platinum line, and Chi’s Platinum Blonde Conditioner.

Heat protectant: This is a good product for anyone who uses hot tools to have on hand, but especially blondes. Blonde hair naturally has little to no shine. Unlike brunettes or redheads, when you go blonde, you’re essentially removing all color pigment from the hair. Using a heat protectant that also adds a little shine will not only protect your hair, but also give it a soft and healthy appearance.

My favorite is the Iron Guard from Chi.

Deep conditioner: Like I mentioned above, blonde hair is achieved by removing all color pigment from the hair. When the color is removed, so is a lot of natural oils and nourishment that your hair needs. Using a deep conditioner one to two times per week will add that much needed moisture back in.

My favorite deep conditioner for blondes is Joico’s K-Pak Reconstructor.

Clarifying Shampoo: Hair product build up can discolor your hair leaving it looking dull and lifeless. The use of a clarifying shampoo weekly will remove the build up easily. In the Summer months, if you spend time in the pool, using a clarifying shampoo that’s targeted for Swimmers will give you the best results. Always follow with a good conditioner.

My favorite clarifiers come from Malibu products. The have a traditional clarifying shampoo called Un-do-goo, along with a Swimmer’s Line that is specifically designed for those who spend a lot of time in the pool.
