ALEX NIEDERER PICKS HIS WAY THROUGH A JUMBLE OF ROCKS WHILE HIS MINDER TOM FRASIER BARKS OUT INSTRUCTIONS .
Gonnet and Alex Niederer turned their attention to each other and engaged in an intense battle for the runner-up slot . Niederer held the upper hand after one lap , leading Blanc-Gonnet by 8 points ( 13 points to 21 points ). Blanc- Gonnet narrowed the gap on the second lap , dropping just 11 points compared to 20 for Niederer . Blanc-Gonnet sealed the deal on the final lap , posting a 14-point final lap compared to 17 for Niederer , giving Blanc-Gonnet second place with a total of 46 points . Niederer rounded out the podium in third with a total of 50 .
Sherco USA ’ s Sam Fastle ( 73 ) finished fourth , while Scorpa USA ’ s Quinn Wentzel ( 88 ) and Beta USA ’ s Andreas Niederer ( 99 ) were fifth and sixth .
In other classes , Josh Roper edged Alex Myers by one point to win the Expert class on Saturday , while Maddie Hoover beat out Kylee Sweeten by one clean to win the Women ’ s Pro division .
Smage was even more impressive on Sunday and threatened to clean the entire day . The Sherco rider cleaned every section on his first two laps and all but one on his third loop . A loose rock in section two cost Smage a five when it gave way as he tried to launch onto a giant wall . In all , Smage collected 35 clean rides and one five on the day for a grand total of five points . More than good enough for win number two .
Niederer came prepared for Blanc- Gonnet on Sunday and edged the Oregon rider by four points on lap one . He was three points better on lap two . Blanc-Gonnet was able to get back three of those points with a solid ride on lap three , but it was not
