DEBRIEFED

STEW BAYLOR

Steward Baylor revels in tough conditions , and enjoys a good mud race . Instead of going around mud holes , the Tely Energy KTM rider plows right through the middle . Baylor was in his element in Indiana , at the Red Fox National Enduro , where he came away with his second win in a row in the Kenda AMA National Enduro Series . We spoke to the South Carolina native after the race and this is what he said about his win .
The day was obviously a good day , all in all . I was really struggling and we didn ’ t know the times , but I knew how I was riding and how I felt . The first two tests I felt really good , but in tests three and four it was one mistake after another . It was really tough to stay focused in those conditions . It was easy to find that one bad line . That was probably the most physically-demanding national enduros I ’ ve ridden .
We put ourselves in a really good position right there from the start . In test five I got stuck a couple times , but sometimes when you make a mistake and you crash , you get stuck , whatever it may be , it kind of wakes you up and makes you push that much harder . And in test five , even though I crashed , we had another really good test and we were able to put some more time on the guys . In test six I had three big crashes right at the finish . The first one I got stuck over in the logs and I couldn ’ t get out . The second one I clipped a tree , and just hurt my bad shoulder . I was within sight of the finish almost . It was just a stupid tip-over but I got stuck kind of on a downhill slope . I was like , all right , I can ’ t hear Josh yet . I know if he ’ s within thirteen seconds I ’ ll be able to hear him , and that ’ s what we needed . I just had to come out . He was obviously the row behind me . I knew that he was 47 down , so as long as I was 13 up we were good . We didn ’ t have a great day . I wouldn ’ t even call it a mediocre day the way that I felt , but everything kind of clicked . Obviously for the results everything worked out really well . I ’ m happy to come away with another win and kind of leave off where we started . Obviously it was a long break , and we ’ ve been doing a lot of GNCC racing , sprint enduros , national enduros for the last couple months . I ’ m happy with it . I look forward to the next round . National enduros is where I want to win , where I know I can win , and I ’ m having fun doing it . n
