News From Etonbury Academy Red Nose Day Thank you for the good turn out on Red Nose day. Every-one dressed up in red and paid £1 which was all donated to charity. We asked year groups for their opinion and their answers where very varied: Year 5 students said they enjoyed coming to school in red, with funny red noses on. Lewis Pinns rugby team did a charity run, what a good effort! 5EM’s game ‘cover the red nose in coins’ raised £23.23. Well done! The Year 6 students told us they liked the cakes and dressing up, some came in onsies! Some even raised money from a day of silence. The parents must have really enjoyed that. Year 7 students said it was fun, good games; they enjoyed the ‘balance a hat of your knee’ game. Well done, Millie Mason, you were the winner. The Year 8 students enjoyed the cakes, they were delicious; some even helped Mrs Thompson make them! It was a good turnout. They raised around £50. They did enjoy the day but thought more games were needed. Mr Geer said that he liked the effort people made for charity, and the dressing up games his form did. Mr Larke en-joyed being around children having fun and raising money. Good efforts everyone. By Jade Turner and Shayla Kirkham 8KL. Wind Band Concert The Inspiring Music Wind Band concert was a great experience during which students got an amazing feel of what it’s like to be in a band. The conductor had a funny, casual way of teaching and there were lots of different instruments such as saxophones (my instrument), French horns and tubas. We got to play a variety of tunes including the Muppets Theme, the James Bond Theme and The Pirates of The Caribbean Theme. Our thanks go to Mr Peter Church and Mrs Rainbow for their invaluable help in contacting all the runners before the start of the event. STOP PRESS .. NEW PROPOSED DATE 26TH MAY 2013 More details locally in May. EACA Committee Gardening Club The cold has not put us off!! The hardier members of the Gardening Club potted up some strawberries for the summer. We are planning to start putting in some raised bed growing areas in the new garden area. There are also plans underway to construct a Wild flower meadow around the new pond area with the help of TEASEL. These are new and exciting projects which are in their infancy. If you would like to get involved in any way please see the contact details in the Etonbury Farm Update article. Young Musician of the Year Each year Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland hold a competition to highlight the talents of young musicians. The competition starts with each of the 1850 clubs holding local competitions and I was asked if I would like to give it a go. There were around forty musicians from many different schools. At the next round – held at St Ives, I sang Moon River and a song from Joseph acapella. After a long wait, I got some good feedback from the judge then found out I was through to a district final. The next round took place at Melton Mowbray. I was in the intermediate section for people aged 11 to 13. After a short talk from the judge they announced the winner from each section. Then they came to my section and the winner is….one of the girls. I later found out I had lost out by just one point. I think Etonbury could get more people to the district final and maybe even the finals. So I hope to see you at the local competitions next January. By Harvey Church 7DG Etonbury Farm Update The whole farm building now has new windows and doors fitted, along with electricity and running water. It is beginning to look very smart. The new Potting Shed and garden area are well under construction and hope to have some raised beds in place for the students to start digging! We have a number of student, parent and local volunteers and I would like to personally thank them for all their efforts. If you w
