Last month ’ s mystery object
June ’ s unusual object was entitled ‘ Equation of Time Table ’. It was a printed paper table mounted on a piece of board and drilled with a hole at the top centre for hanging on a wall .
The description for the use of this table is : The equation of time describes the discrepancy between two kinds of solar time . These are Apparent Solar Time , which directly tracks the motion of the sun , and Mean Solar Time , which tracks a fictitious “ mean ” sun with noons 24 hours apart .
