Be four times more likely to quit this Stoptober !

Stoptober is back ! And the Bedfordshire Stop Smoking Service is inviting smokers to quit with their support for the best shot at kicking the habit this October .
Returning for its fifth year , Stoptober is the mass quit campaign which has helped thousands of smokers to stop smoking by encouraging them to give up for the month of October .
Cllr Maurice Jones , Executive Member for Health at Central Bedfordshire Council , said : “ Stoptober returns year after year because it works so well – when someone makes it to 28 days smoke free , they are five times more likely to quit for good . This , combined with the free , friendly support of our Stop Smoking Service , gives smokers a great shot at stop smoking success .”
Evidence shows that people who use the Bedfordshire Stop Smoking Service are four times more likely to quit smoking , so the service is reminding smokers to get in touch this Stoptober .
Lisa Hayward from Arlesey got in touch for some stop smoking support and hasn ’ t looked back . She said : “ A big thank you to the team at the Stop Smoking Service for all the advice you gave me from start to finish .
“ Just knowing someone was at the end of the line if I needed them was a big help and the small hints and tips ended up being the big things that helped me stay off the cigarettes .
“ I will be telling my friends that this is the way to stop smoking and to book an appointment when they are ready .”

Street Watch

Arlesey Town Council is pleased to announce the introduction of Street Watch to complement the existing Neighbourhood Watch and Speed Watch schemes .
Street Watch is about good citizenship and supporting a better neighbourhood by patrolling your own streets . It provides visible reassurance and appropriately engages in local issues that matter most to our local community .
The presence and activities of Street Watch members will have a significant and positive impact on quality of life issues within the community . Street Watch members also liaise with local police to encourage positive information sharing and liaison .
Street Watch is a way of reclaiming back our streets and open spaces from those who may wish to engage in activities that undermine our community .
Arlesey Scheme details : Will cover the whole village
Needs a maximum of 15 members .
Patrols are always in pairs , wearing hi-vis jackets labelled Bedfordshire Police and StreetWatch along with other equipment .
Members commit to only 2 hours a month , hopefully more Patrol any time of day or night . Look , listen and report only .
For more information , please contact Jeremy Wallace on 07734 919604 . In the light of recent incidents in the village , we can surely get 15 volunteers out of 5000 residents to take part in this scheme .
