Candle-lit Vigil
On 30th June at the War Memorial there was a candle-lit
vigil to remember the fallen soldiers at the battle of the
Somme, including eight men from Arlesey listed on the
war memorial:
• Private Owen Barnes
• Sergeant Henry Gudgeon
• Lance Corporal George Matthews
• Lance Corporal Arthur Phillips
• Private Percy Prutton
• Lance Corporal James Saunderson
• Private Harold Smith
• Private George Taylor
The service was attended by around 40 people
and was taken by the Reverend Geoffrey Boult,
Vicar at St Peter’s Church Arlesey, and Hugh
Harper from the Arlesey and Stotfold branch of
the Royal British Legion. A standard bearer and
bugler were also in attendance.
WW1 Exhibition
The Stotfold & Arlesey Branch of the Royal British Legion
recently held an Exhibition in Stotfold. It included two 1/4
scale model WW1 fighters – a British Sopwith Pup and the
German Fokker (right, as flown by the Red Baron). There
were also various displays including video clips on a large
screen as well as other exhibits.
