St Peter’s Festival
We shall be celebrating our Patronal Festival on Sunday June 26th, at
our normal 9.30am Parish Communion.
St Peter, of course, was especially chosen by Jesus to be ‘the rock’
on which the Church would be built. The story of Peter’s response to
this call is both touching and moving, and reveals Peter to be a very
human and passionate person.
As he was given the role of holding the keys of the kingdom of
heaven, his symbol throughout history has been the twin keys –
symbolising his delegated authority to ‘bind’ or ‘loose’ on earth or in
heaven. These keys appear in our logo here – and also in the logo for
our football club.
Churchyard Revisited
I am very grateful to those families who have repaired relatives’
gravestones that recently were discovered to be unsafe.
There are still a dozen or so that have not been repaired, possibly
because there are no living relatives now associated with them.
It would be good if we could have them repaired and put up straight
again, but unfortunately the Church does not have the resources to
be able to do this (and we are not allowed to use the income from the
Viney Trust for this purpose.)
So I am appealing to residents of Arlesey who appreciate the
Churchyard to consider making a gift towards repairing the remaining
stones. We need something in the region of £1,000 to be able to
complete this work, so if you would like to contribute please send a
cheque payable to “Arlesey PCC” with a note saying this is to be used
for tombstone repairs. If you’d rather use online payment please
contact me for our bank account details. Thank you.
