On the 25th February, an icon of the steam age swept through Arlesey.
The Flying Scotsman back in the news after a multi-million pound restoration
had gone through the day before on its way to Kings Cross. But coming
back it had a larger train of carriages on its way back to York.

The spectacle was captured by many locals and after a request
on Facebook many have sent in their images taken on the day.
The Flying Scotsman has passed through this area many
times before its long sojourn as the first image (above) shows. It
was taken by Brian Juffs in October 1967. The A4 LNER Flying
Scotsman passing Arlesey before the bridge was started. Note
the two tenders – one is water only.
The rest of the images on these two pages were taken by
readers on the 24th and 25th February at various places on its
journeys both south and north back to York.
Thank you to everyone who sent in their images.
