Hello everyone and welcome to the February issue. I am constantly
amazed by the people I meet and speak to. There are so many talented
individuals in this area and hopefully we can highlight some in the coming
months.
Firstly I would like to thank Iona Ward for her feature on Edgeworth
House (pages 8 and 9). Iona who along with her mum Sam have
researched some history of this old building and written a story from the
point of view of the building itself. Iona who is 8 years old had written the
story for a school project and kindly let me use it for this issue.
After the election in January we see two councillors elected as
members to Arlesey Town Council. Derek Page who has previous
experience on the council and Jeremy Wallace a newcomer to Arlesey.
I have recently created a book from images and text loaned to me by
Mr John F Rogers. The book which charts the design and construction of
the Arlesey Bridge to its demolition and reconstruction of what we can see
today. Along with these images I was given access to an album of images
taken around the area in the 1970s and 80s. So thank you John for
lending these albums. I have published some images of Fairfield Hospital
after the closure and before development, taken by John, on page 12.
It has also been a revelation how far on the button travels. The paper
version is viewed by more people than I first envisaged. At the time of
writing this a lady from the New Forest had phoned asking for information
and saying how much she enjoyed reading the online version and talking
about the area she moved away from, around forty years ago.
