walk4health walking4Health is run by the Ramblers Associations with a co-ordinator based in Cardington paid by the County. It was started to help people who either need to get out and walk for their health as recommended by their GP or they just want to get out to walk especially people on their own. Our group is very social and we have a summer lunch this year we walked around the lavender fields at Ickleford and then went to the Gardeners Arms, Wilbury Way, Letchworth for lunch, and we also have a Christmas lunch which this year will be on December 17th at the Green Man, Stanford. We have six trained walk leaders on our walks, with 1st aid certificates and we send our numbers on each walk to the Ramblers database. We meet every Thursday at 10.45 am, for more information on the walks 2004 telephone Brian and Katie Juffs Henlow Lakes 26th August on 01462 638286 As the group start their 12th year – August 2015 Walk4Health–October ct 1st ~ Scout Hut, Baldock Rd, Stotfold O ct 8th & 15th ~ The Crown PH, The Green, Stotfold O Oct 22nd, 29th ~ Arlesey Station Live on Stage at Arlesey Town Football Club on Saturday 3rd October ‘The Steve Winkett Organisation’ band is a three piece blues/rock trio who formed in their college days over 20 years ago. They’ve honed their set in this time to include artists such as The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Little Richard and The Faces, up to more modern influences such as Muse and Paul Weller. Admission is free and anyone is welcome including (well behaved) children. Doors open at 7.00pm and the music starts at around 9.00pm playing through until around 11.00pm. From Mister Serenade to Mr. Wormwood Michael Begley, who’s lived in Arlesey since 2003, is an award-winning actor who’s performed on TV and theatre for 20 years (including William and Mary, Bob and Rose, Foyle’s War, Doctor Who and the young lead opposite Timothy Spall in a Danny Boyle film). Over the last year he has also been singing as Mister Serenade, performing in care and retirement homes for the elderly, Arlesey’s White Horse pub and at parties. He’s just started his latest job playing Mr. Wormwood, Matilda’s ‘orrible dad, in the multi-award winning hit R.S.C. show “Matilda the Musical” at the Cambridge Theatre in London. He said there’s no way he could have played Mr. Wormwood without being Mister Serenade first. Mister Serenade has proved incredibly popular but he’s had elderly audiences heckle him, shout they didn’t like his songs or that he was singing too loudly…! Performing to sell out audiences in the West End will be a breeze compared to that!
