from the
Vicar . . .
Occasionally I watch a TV programme called ‘How it’s made’. It’s surprising
how often you see the production process for a very familiar object and
realise that you’ve never really thought about how it’s made before.
Many objects require source materials from across the globe, and the
bringing together of a range of skills and equipment. From pianos to tractors,
cars to sewing machines, from medicines to ready meals, computers to
mobile phones – an endless range of ingenious devices.
We celebrate our harvest Festival this year on Sept 20th. Traditionally we
think of offering to God samples of our crops as a thank offering. It’s a tradition
with roots in the Old Testament – so that goes back 3,000 years or more.

But of course crops are not our only
produce. We manufacture thousands of different products – many of which
are absolutely essential to our life or health.
So as well as thanking God for our rural harvest, take a moment to think
about all the other things that we depend on and the people who make them
and deliver them to our homes.
Our Harvest celebration is on September 20th – everyone
is welcome to come.
