from the Vicar . . . During August we are running a Holiday Club for children (accompanied by an adult). This will be on Wednesdays between 2pm and 4pm in Church. All Arlesey children are welcome! The theme will be ‘circus’ based and will focus on some famous biblical people and what we can learn from them. We look forward to seeing you. August is the month when perhaps most people think about holidays (even if they don’t necessarily get one then!) The word ‘Holiday’ comes from ‘Holy Day’, which means a day set aside. We think of Holy Days as being set aside for God. But they are also for us, because being in God’s presence is a restful and fulfilling experience. My parents used to run a grocery shop in Bristol when I was little – which is a very tiring and time consuming thing. For them going to Church on Sunday was a special time when they could relax away from all the reminders of the shop, enjoy the music of the service and gain a true sense of refreshment from the busy-ness of the other six days of the week. That’s one of the great gifts that God gives us through his Church – somewhere to feel relaxed, to become refreshed, to feel safe. You’re always welcome! Just one hour a week would be really helpful. We are particularly in need of people who can monitor the progress of the group, pass information on and/or be part of or sort out the phone rota as well. Everything has been arranged by the organising group so things are all set up but we do need more volunteers to help with things like giving local lifts to the doctor or nearby hospital, collecting a prescription, changing a light bulb, dog walking, etc. We have Public Liability Insurance so that you are covered to provide such help. Please contact Rosie Kind from Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charity (BRCC) on 01234 834936 or by email [email protected]. uk or by post to FREEPOST 522, BRCC The Old School Cardington Beds MK44 3BR and mark it for Rosie’s attention. Thank you in anticipation of your help. Young stars needed A new drama club is opening in Arlesey at the Village Hall.
