from the Vicar . . . Sunday 12th July is generally adopted as ‘Sea Sunday’ – something of a foreign concept when live you 80 miles from the nearest coast! And yet an amazing 90% of international trade relies on shipping, using over 100,000 individual ships staffed by 1.5 million men and women. It can be a lonely as well as hostile and dangerous environment and seafarers can often risk abandonment, shipwreck and piracy. The Mission to Seafarers supports sailors through their bases in over 260 ports, offering a range of welfare, emergency and ‘home from home’ services – communications services to help them get in touch with loved ones after months away, The Mission to Seafarers was founded in 1856 and is entirely funded by voluntary donations. We have our entertainment provisionally booked for our traditional end of term party on the 17th July. It is always bittersweet as we have to say goodbye to our children who are moving on to the next chapter of their lives and starting big school!! We wish them all the luck in the world and send them on their way with all our love and a tear in our eye. We look forward to greeting our new starters in September and can’t wait to see what the next year will bring!
