> towards Henlow village. The sun was still shining and the sky was blue with a
few puffs of cloud.
I had already asked if I could open the window for an unlimited view. “Yes
but you might need to hang onto the window.” Andy said. So I opened the
small catch at the bottom and the force of the wind nearly nearly took it out
of my hand. Travelling at around 100mph there is a lot of force there. The
window hinged at the top and stayed up in the wind. This gave me almost
unrestricted view of my side of the plane. I looked down and got my bearings.
In front were the new solar panels and wind turbines near Langdord. To
the right was Arlesey and I could see Church End as I looked down. Directing
Andy where I would like to go I clicked away over Arlesey, Fairfield Park and
eventually Stotfold.
As we were flying round the east of Stotfold my camera stopped working.
The battery was charged. The camera had enough memory to capture
around 1000 photos. I looked down and the readout on the screen said
“Lens Detached”. I quickly clicked the lens back, working out that I must have
pressed the release button with my left hand unintentionally. Phew! That was
lucky.
I had read up about aerial photography before the flight and one of the
things that was most prevalent in my mind was not to touch the camera on
the body of the plane. Also don’t zoom in too much as the images would be
out of focus. It was all happening very quickly and I just had to hope I was
getting some good shots.
