Welcome to the June issue of on the button. This month the biggest news
is the election – turn to page 6 for a list of new councillors.
The Three Counties Asylum story completes this month and I would
just like to say a huge personal thank you to Richard Knight for his story
and the use of the images he has supplied. It has been one of the most
interesting and widely read features so far. Richard and his wife Rosalyn
are a mine of information on the history of the hospital, and they are
holding a 155 year celebration exhibition at Stotfold Memorial Hall on the
28th June. I for one, will be there, casting an eye over the documents
and artefacts that they have both collected.
I also met some pupils of Etonbury Academy who came along to
St. Peter’s Church to show their artwork depicting the 8 facets of the font.
All of the artworks will be on show with 8 of the final pieces on display
around the fonts in special frames – see page 12.
There is also the opportunity to find out more about the Neighbourhood
Plan on the 19th and 20th June at the Scout Hut – see page 5.
On pages 14 and 15 Jodie Chillery has written a feature on a trip to
Gallipoli last year as part of the ‘Arlesey Remembers You’ project. It tells
the story of a trip to find the graves of two servicemen from the First
War Fred Bygrave and Frank Fowler who are named on the memorial.
The project is ongoing, although the crosses have been placed and the
film shown and even aired on television, there is still work going on to
research the fallen soldiers. For more information on the project visit:
