In the restaurant trade recommendations are crucial for business, and
what better recommendation than an award for your efforts. One Stotfold
restaurant – ‘The India Lodge’ – has recently won ‘Best Restaurant for the
Hertfordshire region by the British Bangladeshi Business Forum (BBBF).
Manager Mailk Uddin was proud to show off the award and show anyone
pictures of himself receiving it in Luton last year.

A team of mystery judges had visited the restaurant to sample the
authentic Indian and Bangladeshi food and ‘stand-out’ service. The award
was made at a ceremony in Luton attended by around 500 people, these
included the founder of Cobra Beer Lord Karan Bilimoria, Stevenage
Borough Council Leader Sharon Taylor and Mayor of Stevenage Sherma
Batson.
India Lodge opened in 2000 after Mr Uddin and his business partner
Abdul Hye Peeves, from Luton, had been searching for new premises for a
while. They saw the premises in the High Street and realised it was perfect
for their new venture. After 14 years, most of the 13 staff have stayed with
them and that has been the basis of their success, with customers coming
from all over to sample chef’s finest. “We have plenty of customers who visit
us from Stevenage. We even get one regular customer, who has eaten here
for years, and travels all the way from Cambridge especially for the food”
said Mr Uddin.
Congratulations to all at the India Lodge on winning the award.
