election time This May the country is set to vote in a General Election. This means voting for your chosen political party or local MP. At the same time there are elections for local councillors – Ward councillors taking local issues to Central Bedfordshire Council, and Town/Parish councillors working within the community on behalf of residents. Arlesey Ward encompasses Arlesey, Henlow, Stondon and Clifton and within that each has their own Town or Parish Council. This is the chance for all eligible voters to assess their elected or co-opted councillors and look to see if they want change. Here in Arlesey we have three Ward Councillors they are often at full council meetings reporting and discussing issues from Central Bedfordshire Council. Arlesey Town Council constitutionally should have fifteen councillors. With resignations of five members in late 2014, and only two new members, who were elected uncontested, it is likely to stay that way until the elections in May. With twelve councillors it is still able to function, and is ‘quorate’. Whatever your views on the current situation it is now a crucial time to vote in the councillors the community wants to bring in for the next four years. Why is this important? One reason is, the future of Arlesey is about to change dramatically due to the vast expansion plans underway. To get the best out of these plans, we as residents need to vote in the candidates we feel are going to get the best for us. I’m sure you will see posters and adverts in the coming months letting you know who will be standing for council. I for one will be asking questions of the candidates to get an insight on how they will work for us and the future. You may even feel you would like to be a Councillor. Hot and cold drinks will be available thereafter to purchase via the bar. Half of the money collected will be donated to charity and this months selected charity is Macmillan. If anyone would like to speak to me at the event about future charity fundraising please feel free to do so. There are a few tables to use if people need these for displays please let me know. I will remind people though this is a networking event not a table top sale. So my suggestion is tables are used by those that have a few items they make/sell to showcase them. We would like maximum attendance therefore please can you say whether you will be attending or not. If there are too many people that are unable to make it we may look at other dates. for a 10% discount enter the code ‘button’ Pallet Racking Mezzanine Floors and Lifts Office Partitioning Ladders/steps Shelving Platforms Workbenches Mailroom Equipment Rack Safety Inspection/ ROS Repair u Turnkey Projects u u u u u u u u u Contact us today for more information 01462 488334 [email protected] w
