Etonbury Academy news
Young Chef Regional Final WINNER
Millie Mason entered the Regional Final at North Herts College on 15 February
and was a very worthy Winner. She was brilliant and remained so composed
throughout. She was the youngest in the competition, making her achievement all
the more special. The Head Chef/judge said there was little he could fault her on!!
Millie now goes through to the next round which is being held at The College
of Westminster in London (the starting point of many of our famous chefs today)
on 15 March. This will hopefully take her through to the FINAL in Dundee later
in the year. Our congratulations and enormous pride, go to Millie.
Sainsburys Active Kids Vouchers
Sainsbury’s are issuing Active Kids Vouchers up until 20 May 14. Please bring
them into school. There is a collecting box in the main reception area.
Year 5 Road Safety Day
With the support of Mr Larke and two professional directors Year 8 spent the
day putting together a Drama production about Road Safety which they then
performed to Years 5 and 6. The students also enjoyed a number of activities
involving aspects of road safety during the day. They all found it good fun!

Congratulations
Holly Proctor achieved 1st place in a local cyclocross event recently. She has
been competing in a series of cyclocross races since last November and her
last race of the season was at the end of February. She has been competing
and winning races all season. This meant she was the U14 girls series winner
and as was the overall winner of the U14 category (both girls and boys). This
was particularly special for Holly, as one of her coaches passed away a few
weeks ago, aged 49, and she wanted to do this in memory of him. Holly is now
getting ready for the grass track season. Both Holly and her sister Sophie have
the opportunity to train on the Olympic Velodrome in London at the end of May.
Holly has every reason to be very proud of her achievements and we send her
our congratulations from Etonbury Academy.
Our Amazing Trip to Aylmerton
On 24 February Year 5 pupils set off for a week at the Alymerton Field Study
Centre near Cromer in Norfolk and what an AMAZING time they had. They did
it all, from beach combing, hunting down monsters, twilight walks, sailing on the
Broads, seal spotting at Blakeney Point to climbing 344 steps in the tower at
Cromer Church. Our Year 8 reporters set about interviewing some of those who
took part and also some that remained behind for the week. They all agreed that
it brought back some very fond memories of their own Aylmerton experience.
Meanwhile, back at school, lots and lots of fun was had by our pirates in Year 5.
Congratulations to Tianna Hector-Nugent and Lavigne Mann for winning the best
dressed pirates, and to ‘The Jolly Roger’ for collecting the most Pirate Points.
The Gunjur Project
Five students from 7JB have embarked on a project to support students in the
Gunjur region of Africa. Basic supplies that pupils take for granted here, are
very precious to them. With this is mind, Sean, Max, Jack, Sam and Robert
came up with the idea of pupils from Etonbury donating pens and pencils to
send to Gunjur. The idea grew and with the help of the Year 7 Technology group
3, 240 cakes were made and decorated. On Tuesday 11th February the first
Gunjur pen exchange took place – pupils exchanged a brand new pen or pencil
(or donation) for a cupcake. A box of stationery was donated and £26.25 in
cash, and will go to the Gunjur project very soon. Well done and many thanks to
all involved. More details on the Gunjur Project soon.
