The Glorianna Cup is the UK’s longest running authentic steel sword tournament and attracts the best swordsmen and women from across the UK. Pete had to fight through 5 qualifying rounds to get in to this years final where he faced off against the 2011 winner and defending champion David Rudd from Sheffield. Mr. Holland managed to take the Gold medal and win the cup, after what was an extremely impressive exchange of skilled swordplay from both fighters. Accompanying Pete were two of his students, Keith Deans and Jed Pascoe both from Sandy. Both reached the finals and fought each other for the bronze medal position, which was won by Jed Pascoe. Pete said after the tournament “It was an honour to fight such skilled swordsman from across the UK. The fighting was hard and fast and pushed me all the way. The AOBC has produced some great swordsmen and women over the years and we have currently won the cup 4 times and have had several medal winners which goes to show the quality of the club and its students. This is the second time I have won, I won the cup in 2008 when it was held in Edinburgh which was a great accomplishment, however on a personal level for me the greatest feeling I have at this exact moment is to win the UK championship at the steel Backsword in this the Olympic year which is also the 400th anniversary of the original English Olimpick games held in 1612. That will be an achievement that will stay with me for the rest of my life” Pete runs a local Traditional English Martial Arts (TE-MA) club called The Aisle O’var Backswording Clubbe. As an accomplished martial arts instructor Pete has taught TE-MA for over 12 years in the local Bed’s and Hert’s area. The club is not only about learning the art of real swordsmanship but also hand to hand combat.
