Masterplan ATC Extraordinary meeting At an extraordinary meeting of Arlesey Town Council on 10th January members voted to oppose the current Masterplan and to write to Central Bedfordshire Officers to highlight a considerable number of significant flaws and issues with the scheme. Central Bedfordshire Officers have since indicated that there will be two further key meetings before the Executive Committee convene to consider adopting the Masterplan (understood to be in mid-March). Firstly a Stakeholders meeting at CBC on 28th January and then an Overview and Scrutiny committee meeting scheduled for 27th February. Following the extraordinary meeting of the Town Council Cllr. Andrew Ward said “The position ATC has taken is, I believe, a reflection of the majority of Arlesey’s residents, it is now vital that residents lobby members of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee to ensure individual views are acted upon. Public attendance by residents at that meeting will also be key. I would encourage everyone with an interest in the future of Arlesey to participate.” Cllr Darren Hazelwood also commenting on recent developments said “It is encouraging that Arlesey Town Council is now working for and listening to residents views on this very important matter” Details of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee members are as follows: Cllr David McVicar (Chairman), 9 Index Drive, Dunstable, Beds, LU6 3TU, 0300 300 8545, [email protected] Cllr Alan R Bastable, 39 Townsend Close, Cranfield, Beds, MK43 0DJ, 0300 300 8506, [email protected] Cllr Kevin Collins, c/o Priory House, Monks Walk, Shefford, Beds, SG17 5TQ Cllr Alison Graham, 21 Church Street, Shillington, Hitchin, Herts, SG5 3LH, 0300 300 8526, [email protected] Cllr Roy W Johnstone, 33 Almond Road, Leighton Buzzard, Beds, LU7 3UN, , 07914 519186, [email protected] Cllr Ken C Matthews, 142B High Street, Cranfield, Bedford, MK43 0EL, 0300 300 8543, [email protected] Cllr Tom Nicols, 2 Stockdale, Toddington, Beds, , LU5 6EB, 0300 300 8548, [email protected] Cllr Brian Saunders, 107 Hitchin Road, Stotfold, Hitchin, Herts, SG5 4JE, 0300 300 8560, [email protected] Cllr Peter Williams, 25 Dalling Drive, Houghton Regis, Dunstable, Beds, LU5 5EF, 0300 300 8567, [email protected] y Diary Dates Walk4Health – Scout Hut, Baldock Road, Stotfold Rebel Rebel – Old Oak 9.00pm Walk4Health – Scout Hut, Baldock Road, Stotfold Walk4Health – The Crown PH, The Green, Stotfold Trip Fontaine & The Love Reaction – Old Oak 9.00pm Walk4Health – The Crown PH, The Green, Stotfold Maxwell Hammer & Smith – Old Oak 9.00pm Walk4Health – Arlesey Station thu 6 sat 7 thu 13 thu 20 sat 22 thu 27 sat Mar 1 thu Mar 6 Please let us know about your event by the 15th of the month for inclusion in the next month’s diary. February 2014 The Green Wheel aims to provide a wheel of countryside around 11 towns and parishes in our area, with connecting links as spokes coming off it. Cliff Andrews of BRCC is currently producing plans for a Green Wheel which can be used by the local communities in their towns/parishes. The Green Wheel is more than an access route linking green spaces, biodiversity and landscape. The criteria is that it is traffic free and safe, offers and provides easy access to where people live and where they want to travel. They should be protected from future development. The plan aims to identify the key existing natural, historic, cultural and landscape assets, accessible green spaces and rights of way and to plan new features that will provide a connected network of green infrastructure for the benefit of present and future generations. At the heart of BRCCs work is the belief that the best results are achieved by empowering local communities and giving them a say in issues that affect them. With the plan identifying what is important to the community, and what they would like to see improved to enhance the green infrastructure network. The plan can be used to support funding bids, to help communities make important improvements to their local environment. The end product should be enabling local residents to have access to attractive countryside and to enhance the habitats for wildlife.
