steaming through Arlesey still sees its fair share of steam locomotives as they travel up or down the main line through the town. The Bittern is a frequent visitor as the image on the right shows – on Monday 17th June the A4 class locomotive made its way south and then back north again to join an exhibition at the National Railway Museum in York. The exhibition was to celebrate 75 years since The Mallard broke the record of 126mph along the East Coast Main Line near Grantham. The Bittern joined The Mallard, Sir Nigel Gresley, Union of South Africa, Dwight D Eisenhower, and Dominion of Canada, for the exhibition in July this year.
