Arlesey Community Duck Race
The sunday event was resurrected from Arlesey to raise funds for Arlesey
Scouts, Arlesey Residents Association, Arlesey Methodist Church and
ACORN. Still selling long after the race was supposed to start the organisers
capitalised on the warm weather and large crowd. Approximately 700 ducks
were sold by the time the race started, and they made their way along a
stretch of the river Hiz by Glebe Meadow finishing at the weir by Henlow
Bridge Lakes. A figure of around £900 is estimated to have been raised
from the event.
The winner of the individual race was Gail Allen receiving £50 (see below)
and the corporate winner was Kathy Lindskog who wins a prize duck.

Winners Gail and Fred Allen were over the moon at their win and said they will look for either a local organisation
or the cancer charity they are both supporting to donate the winnings to. Both have been diagnosed with cancer
and at the time of going to press they were both entered to participate in the Dragon Boat Race in Kingston-uponThames on 21st July 2013 to raise money for Beating Bowel Cancer. Gail has terminal Bowel Cancer and Fred is
