‘Needle and Thread‛ Alterations and repairs Survey Results Part 2 Here is a further update on the survey results. Just a reminder that the views of 562 adults were recorded during the three week period the survey was open. In response to the question about “What do you like about living in Arlesey?” the following responses were recorded: • Rural location 412 responses 73.3 % • Open green spaces 395 responses 70.3 % • Transport connections 328 responses 58.4 % • Recreational walks 304 responses 54.1 % • Quality of life 281 responses 50.0 % • Family connections 169 responses 30.1 % NeedleandThread05.indd 1 22/2/13 09:54:20 • Places to walk my dog 146 responses 26.0 % • I work locally 126 responses 22.4 % • Other 55 responses 9.8 % One of VOA’s main concerns has been the secrecy around a ‘master plan’ for the scheme. It is understood to be based upon building of a minimum of 1000 houses over the next decade or so. The bulk of the development would be on land that is currently farmed (i.e. East of the High St. back to the A507) or that which is open green space (i.e. sandwiched between the High St. and the railway line, from Primrose lane to the White Horse). These are currently ‘green spaces’ and contribute towards what makes Arlesey a ‘rural location’. If the scheme were to go ahead we believe this would represent Tidytime_Jun_2012_10:Layout 1 22/5/13 17:24 Page 1 a major threat to the things most valued by residents. It is also clear from responses received that recreational walks on and around open spaces in Arlesey are highly valued and contribute to the quality of life of residents. Green spaces also featured prominently in the feedback to the official consultation last summer (79 responses in total recorded), so the aning, Cle consortium are aware, but this more comprehensive survey by the people ironing and laundry of Arlesey shows exactly how people like to use the green spaces. No services reassurances have yet been offered as to how this will be maintained. Wednesdays open until 7.00pm VOA intends to present these concerns to the stakeholders in the Cleaning – Domestic and offices • Weekly and fortnightly development shortly and to highlight the numerous significant flaws • Blitzes • End of let cleans • Sparkle cleans in the scheme as it currently stands (and in so far as we understand it Ironing – £3.50 per kg – approx 4 - 5 shirts !). The gobbling up of green spaces in just one example, another that Laundry – Service wash, dry and fold – from £8, featured strongly in the survey responses is that the much heralded ‘relief’ Football kits – £13.50, Duvets, pillows, curtains and more road, whilst offering some relief to the high street, will at best only partly mitigate the problems that a substantial increase in traffic volume will Dry Cleaning – Gents suit £9.95 bring.
