STA N D A RD OF P RACTICE: Acupuncture
C
hiropractors have been utilizing acupuncture as an adjunctive therapy
in their practices for many years. The use of this adjunctive therapy by
chiropractors is regulated by the College of Chiropractors of Ontario’s (CCO)
Standard of Practice S-017 “Acupuncture”.
In 2006 the provincial government
passed the Traditional Chinese Medicine
Act. Then in 2013, the College
of Traditional Chinese Medicine
Practitioners and Acupuncturists of
Ontario (CTCMPAO) officially began
regulating traditional Chinese medicine
practitioners in Ontario. Understandably,
these developments have resulted in a
lack of clarity about the role acupuncture
services can play in a chiropractor’s
practice. This reiteration of the CCO’s
acupuncture Standard of Practice is
designed to provide that clarity.
How do these developments impact
Chiropractors?
