Understanding how the landscape has evolved will help chiropractors better understand and engage in the care their patients receive across the system. But the values at the heart of this evolution are not new to chiropractic. Chiropractors have had an “obsessive” focus on patients since the profession began over 100 years ago. In fact, the shift in the health care system presents a compelling opportunity to chiropractors. Given that patient-centredness has always been a part of the DNA of the profession, chiropractic can contribute a great deal to this transformation. Especially when it comes to working with patients to avoid costly and unnecessary surgical interventions, chiropractors model the type of quality care that the government is promoting every day. In the coming months and years, chiropractors will undoubtedly create new and improved mechanisms for modelling their patient-centredness for their health care colleagues.
