Chicago The vibrant murals dispersed throughout Chicago are a huge draw for visitors. In fact, several of Chicago’s most colorful murals have earned them- selves popular hashtags on Instagram, especially Victor Ving and Lisa Beggs’ “Greetings from Chicago” in Logan Square and the Heart Emoji Wall in Bucktown. The result has gone beyond great photos that showcase local culture; it’s advanced the careers of the artists. For those looking for a high concentration of murals, the South Loop neighborhood has recently emerged as a go-to spot. In May of last year, the Wabash Arts Corridor Big Walls initiative trans- formed the area into a buzzing hub for public art. Twenty renowned street artists painted large-scale mural installations. The result was streets that feel like art galleries. pieces, Nashville artists are constantly creating new work. Most recently, the downtown district referred to as the Gulch made room for the Nashville Walls Project. Founded by Brian Greif and Éva Boros, this privately funded initiative was created to bolster the local art community. Among artists who contributed massive walls were Jason Woodside and Ian Ross. While stylistically different, the varied looks repre- sent the diverse talent living in, or visiting, the city, including work from artists as far away as Australia, Germany, Amsterdam, Mexico and England. The project’s latest installation was a 165-foot-tall mural by Australian artist Guido van Helten. • The Nashville Walls Project features work from Jason Woodside (left, top and bottom) and Ian Ross (right, top and bottom), among other artists. Nashville Music City isn’t just known for its tunes. Street art can be seen all around the city. One of the most well-known murals is the dragon in Hillsboro Village painted by artists David Glick and Adam Randolph. It was completed over the course of three weekends in 1995 and was recently refreshed. The mural was inspired by the mosaic sea serpent seen at Fannie Mae Dees Park.
