Christian Hip Hop artist, Jonathan
“Shiselon” De Silva heeded his call and chose
to explore his new found passion.
As he continued to mature in his craft and in
Christ, he found himself being molded and
sculpted by the word of God. Like a sculptor
that uses materials to create works of art,
Shiselon was blessed with the gift of putting
lyrics together to create clever rhymes that
brought glory to God. Shiselon got his name
from the word ‘Chisel’. The letter C” was
replaced with “S” and adding “ON” as the
suffix. Later an acronym was developed for
part of the name Shiselon with the ending
“E.L.O.N” meaning “Eternal Life Or Nothing.
Though Christian Rap was somewhat taboo in
Trinidad and Tobago, the desire to pursue that
type of music ministry was apparent.
In 1999 he was signed to Judah Sounds
Label,  known today as Flow Masters Records,
where he was first heard on the album ‘One
Step Closer to Zion’ with “Righteous Living”.
In 2003 he released his first album that was
considered the first of its kind. It was entitled
“Eyes Off Me”. The sixteen track album was
well received and began to make an impact in
the local music scene, thus having the genre
embraced and appreciated more by music
aficionados locally.
In 2004 his debut album captured a Marlin
Award for ‘Hip Hop Recording for the Year’ for
the song ‘Watcha Gonna Do’.
In 2009 he received an award from the NYAC
Top 20 Stars of Tomorrow Award Ceremony
for his contribution to Gospel Music in
Trinidad and Tobago.
Since then he has successfully done
collaborations with the likes of local artistes
such as Sherwin Gardner; Vanessa Briggs; Mr.
Danny; Isaac Blackman; Russell Leonce and
Antus Keith.
He has opened for international acts such
as Christafari and more recently award
winning International Christian hip-hop artists
Da’TRUTH, Flame, Young Noah , V-Rose, Canon
and Capital Kings.
Now, independent, Shiselon is continually on
the journey of creating music of depth and
meaning.
His most recent releases are ‘Seasons’ and
‘Give Thanks’.
Shiselon continues to work on new material
releasing an EP entitled ‘Cross Before Crown’
in 2015.
